For young people preparing for higher education, the cost of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can be another hurdle. GIPSED’s annual DMO UTME Sponsorship helps students meet registration costs and take the next step towards admission.
How the programme works
GIPSED invites applications and conducts assessment examinations to select beneficiaries. School principals, teachers, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, student leaders and community networks help share information and organise the exercise.
Assessment examinations are held locally so that applicants can participate within the catchment area. The academic committee coordinates supervision, marking and compilation of results. Successful candidates receive support for UTME registration.
Fair selection and practical support
The assessment process helps direct available resources using clear selection criteria. GIPSED’s field team works with candidates and school partners through the registration process. Where additional candidates are supported outside the main list, these are included in the annual beneficiary count once confirmed.
Annual figures count each sponsorship in the year it was provided. A student supported in more than one year is counted in each of those years. The total therefore represents annual sponsorships, rather than 1,320 different people.
Recognising achievement
The 2025 programme sponsored 216 candidates. A subsequent update celebrated the top 11 performers, including Adebiyi Joseph from Iba, Ifelodun LGA, who scored 324 in UTME. These examination achievements are recorded separately from admission outcomes.
Annual results, beneficiaries and photographs
The annual archive brings together assessment figures, beneficiary lists, available results and photographs of assessment activities. Examination-cycle years are used: for example, some assessments for the 2026 sponsorship took place in December 2025.
The 2021 figure of about 400 refers to applicants reported by GIPSED, not a verified assessment attendance total. Records for later years show the candidates listed in the assessment results.
Year by year

2023 includes five additional candidates. Annual sponsorships count repeat beneficiaries in each year they receive support. The 2021 applicant estimate is not an attendance figure.
