The cost of a final secondary school examination can place significant pressure on families. GIPSED supports students to register for either WAEC or NECO, helping them take the examination needed for their next stage of education.

Why this support matters

For co-founder Dr Michael Olugbile, the challenge is personal. His family experienced the pressure of borrowing to pay examination fees. The programme extends practical help to families facing similar barriers today.

Each beneficiary is sponsored for either WAEC or NECO. The programme does not count the same student as receiving both examinations.

Working with schools to select students

GIPSED works with school principals, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and associations of school leaders to identify eligible students and conduct scholarship assessments. The selection process helps allocate the available sponsorship places fairly.

Field staff and the academic committee coordinate assessments and follow up with selected students and their families. Mentorship accompanies the financial support, encouraging students to prepare carefully and make the most of their education.

Annual progress

The 2026 assessment records contain 88 candidates across Odo-Otin, Ifelodun and Boripe. The final beneficiary list names 36 students, with 12 from each LGA.

Some earlier annual beneficiary totals are still being reconciled. The annual table clearly marks the planning figure of 20 where GIPSED has requested a provisional placeholder. These estimates are excluded from confirmed impact totals.
