The cost and distance involved in seeking care can make it difficult for families to get medical attention. GIPSED’s medical outreaches bring free services into communities across Odo-Otin, Ifelodun and Boripe, connecting residents with consultations, screening, medicines and further care where needed.
Medical services provided
Services have included medical consultations and provision of medicines, blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, health education and referrals. Eye-care services have included free eye tests, ophthalmic consultations and eyeglasses.
The outreach model brings health professionals and community volunteers together, helping residents access care closer to home.
The first round: 2014
The first round of medical outreaches took place in 2014 in 11 communities across the three LGAs, reaching more than 3,000 beneficiaries. Photographs and posts document activities in Odo-Otin, Ifelodun and Boripe, including eye-care services in Ada.
Reaching all 38 wards in 2023
A second round of medical outreaches was conducted in 2023 in each of the 38 wards across Odo-Otin, Ifelodun and Boripe. This extended the geographic reach of the programme. The number of people seen during that round has not yet been confirmed for publication.
Medical care and food support in December 2023
On 28 December 2023, the team conducted additional medical outreach in Okuku in the morning and continued in Igbaye until late in the evening. Alongside free medical care, more than 300 families received food materials.
The food figure counts families receiving food, not medical patients. This outreach is separate from the Children’s Christmas Party and Project Feed held earlier that month.
Working together for community wellbeing
GIPSED’s field team, medical professionals and community collaborators help coordinate visits and connect residents with services. The programme complements education and livelihood support by addressing another essential part of family wellbeing.
